since small, i have been carefree free from lots of hmwk, very happy. the view from the living room window is a forest, which i always look at since i was 3. i would run around the whole house during lunch when my maid would feed me, & ended up in the living room, staring at the forest, looking at the ppl & cars hu passed by. i was very happy den. being bored from playing com or watching telly, i would always go & watch the forest, thinking it was the big wet market that my grandmother would always go to during Saturdays at Clementi. i would always point at smth or someone & tell tat to my maid. i was very curious abt those ppl, where are they going, why they are going to their destination, what is their names, age, occupation etc.. 'that is the lady carrying her groceries, pushing her child in the pram.' i would think, looking at the forest.
den i went to mursery & kndergarten, where i cud play with my friends. aft playing, some hmwk to be done at home Sometimes my grandmother would trip at the overhead bridge we needed to cross to get to the nursery but she woould never fall. den i would say in Chinese, "Grandma, be careful!"as i grew up, when my grandma tripped at the overhead bridge, i would keep quiet & did not say anything.
during the kindergarten period, my grandmother always send mi to the kindergarten centre & go to the market nearby(not the clementi one) & aft buying something, she would come back & wait patiently for me. i would play with my friends & go home to have some hmwk to be done. i would walk with my grandmother, & eat lunch with my grandmother. then i would do the homework assigned by the tcher at the kindergarten in my grandparents' room with my grandmother, using the thick pencil my grandfather have. almost everything i do was with my grandmother, so i am very close to my grandmother. aft doing hmwk, i would eat my teabreak & take a short afternoon nap, & i will wake up at around usually 5. after which i will go downstairs to the playground to play by the company of my maid. then i will go back up by around 6 & have dinner. & wait for my parents to return from work.
aft a few years in p1, life was abt the same, just that i couldn't go down & play, i couldn't meet my kindergarten friends & i couldn't watch hi5 at 5.30pm on kidscentral. it was very sad. & i from young would bully my grandfather, he passed away when i was 7 on the evening of 9th July 2003. It was a Wednesday. when i came home, i could not see anybody at home, except my maid, bro & sis. usually i wud see my maid, bro, sis, grandfather & grandmother. den we gt a phone from my mother(she sounded as if she was crying) saying that we must go to the hospital. i cannot remember how we gt to the hospital, but i knew that was the SARS period. but we didn't need to take the temperature. we went somewhere in the hospital & i saw him lying there still. everybody was crying quietly, incl my maid. my grandmother lamented very loudly.i cried too.
my grandfather is a very knowledgeable person, he knew malay Hainanese, Japanese, English(other dialects i dunno.) he knew how to plant flowers. but after he passed away, nobody was ther e to look aft the flowers except for the maid hu watered them daily but still the flowers died, now there is nothing to ji4 nian4 my grandfather.
now, life is not so carefree, with lots of homework, & under the influence of some classmates & the new com & the com games, there is now no time to look at the forest, no time to be curious abt other ppl. What will i say to grandfather? Rest in peace. & i will never forget my lovely childhood & my grandfather.
during the nursery & kndergarten time, i would always finish my hmwk quickly in order to play, but now i dun haf that spirit of doing hmwk.
'Where is that carefree life of mine, & my grandfather? They are all lost, with no hope of getting them back.'
