Leave Leaves Alone

Falling leaves return to their roots.

But others, gone with the wind,
afloat, flutter, fluttering,
falling on
the cement ground, the asphalt concrete
the gravel, dirt, mud,

kicked,
grazed,
flattened,
trampled over,
pierced,
torn into pieces.

They quietly accept
the cruel twists in fate,
dying quickly, slowly,
painfully, miserably,
far from returning,
far from where they began.

We are those leaves.

I had the rare chance of eating with Amanda since she was alone and I cruelly left my other friends without hesitation to join her.

She started talking about art schools, and the different courses she considered taking up. I was honestly surprised at the subject matter she approached; such thoughts hadn't crossed my mind for a while now.

"Are you considering joining those schools?" She asked, curious.
"Erm... not really, I am kind of focusing more on, like, humanities courses now... " I answered her sheepishly, almost shamefully.
She nodded her head, and continued eating.

This entire conversation prodded my mind and pricked me at my heart; Amanda reminded me of what I liked, and what I truly wanted to do in the future. I was so caught up with the upcoming As and whatever I was studying, that I didn't even think of such options. Regrettably, I had conveniently forgotten my goals, and my aspirations. I had relegated whatever that was important to me to the buried depths of my mind. School, and all the shitty subjects I'm studying, all seem so insignificant when I think about what she said, and what I desired. I had committed a gaffe, a faux-pas, an unforgivable sin for breaking that implicit contract I had with Amanda -- that we were different and set out for paths distinct from everyone else.

I'm extremely exhausted with whatever the school is trying to do, and having to deal with the stress, the pressure and the surveillance is no mean feat either. I wish I could go to sleep and never wake up.

On an unrelated note, these are two articles that everyone should be reading and in case you're stuck in studying shit and need a dose of current affairs.
